Don't buy the big tub, cause the movie's over!
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Nice Looking 2005 Progressive/Rhino on Digitsmith!
Price now at 11K. Super low impression count.
I would jump on it. I have a customer here in So Cal that runs
two of them in a very large shop. Over 5 mill impressions on each with normal
part replacements, which they order from 2m.

I'm interested in the many recommendations for upgrading the size of auto. Aside from the obvious ability to print high detail simulated process jobs, what advantages do the big presses offer? Especially for a shop that runs mainly 1-2 colour jobs, as per the original post?

I'm interested in the many recommendations for upgrading the size of auto. Aside from the obvious ability to print high detail simulated process jobs, what advantages do the big presses offer? Especially for a shop that runs mainly 1-2 colour jobs, as per the original post?

when we bought our 6 color Javelin we were mostly printing 1-2 color jobs, within 6 months, we had our first 6 color sim-process job come through (which on the javelin was ok due to the flashback), but on a different press would have either required us to run in revolver mode and put the flash in a off-load station, or run with less colors.

If you're buying a 'low cost' used press, 6c is probably ok, but we're running a 7 color job today on our 10c sportsman, and it would be nice to have even more extra heads.

It'll be a hard choice during our next upgrade if we get a 'small' 6c or a 12c or 14c... probably depends on which way we go with HSA inks here as HSA requires more flashing in some circumstances and it would be nice to have a few extra heads for that.

Personally we bought M&R for the service and for the fact that their factories are less than an hour away from our shop.  If/when something happens, I'm confident we can be back up and running in the same day.

I also wouldn't buy a press from a vendor that their first answer to me would be that industry leaders are 'doing it wrong' and that I have to rig my new press to accomplish what I want (but I'll leave that story for a different day).

my take...

used is a great route.  Late 90's all air gauntlets are great machines.  Plenty of support and plenty of techs that can fix them.  they are pretty cheap and they will print for a long time.

This is a pretty sweet deal IMO. Tons of functionality for the dollar. Established quality presses. I'm surprised Alan isn't buying it as a 2nd even though it's air!

I'm spoiled, I'll stick with AC and servo.  The first time I try to print at 30"/sec and can't do it with an air machine I'd be upset with myself.

Yeah, RPM Revolution.  Not surprised to hear you got a voicemail and weren't even able to leave a message.  I was hoping the new hire there could help Rick out but I'm not even sure he's still there.  I've personally never had an issue getting a hold of Rick but I know a few that have.  It's unfortunate because the machine is very strong, but there is so much more to being an automatic manufacturer than just building a great press.

Do yourself a favor and look at Marcodie.  You can get the press in any registration configuration you want (Tri Lock MHM or Pin).  Very high end press at a Diamondback price.  http://marcodieusa.com/
Do yourself an even bigger favor and pull a D&B on Marcodie. Besides the fact they have a judgement against them from M&R for close to 1M there are others owed big time. But hey if Sonny says it's the place to buy an auto must be o.k.

Wow, just wow is all I can say. Let me first clarify mr. Hoffmans gross negligence in mentioning a lawsuit or any misgivings about Marcodie USA Inc. To my knowledge at this moment I have not nor has Marcodie USA Inc. Been sued or has been sued or has any dealings with M&r or mr. Hoffman  (except for being a competitor in the same industry ) and to make a statement in effect claiming so is just plain false, wrong and possibly liable, especially on a public forum such as this.

To be very clear with anyone and everyone here, I purchased the assets of a failed Marcodie in Austria. Well over a year ago. I then chose to transfer all of the purchased assets to Texas and start my company here in Texas building high quality screen printing equipment at an affordable price. I chose to leave the name in place in order to support customers from the previous ownership/company. I did not have to , I wanted to because I thought and still believe it's the right thing to do. I could have easily been abc machines. I have been a screen printer my entire life since 16 years old and this was just an opportunity for me to put my .02 into what I think a printer should have on their press. Just my way of giving back to an industry that has keep me and my family fed and sheltered over the years. That's it, no mystery no bs just great presses at a reasonable price.

Mr. Hoffman, I have no bones to pick with you nor you should have with me short of the fact that we are competitors. I have the utmost respect for you and your company and there is no need for false statements or intentions to falsely lead people to a false conclusion about a company you know nothing about. If you have a problem with the original owners/company I suggest you take it up with them. That being said I will defend my reptutation and my companies without delay. To that end I would expect you to do the honorable thing and publicly issue an apology or correction of your statements that infer my company Marcodie USA Inc. being sued or having any obligation to you or anyone else for that matter.

For those of you that would like to know more about Marcodie USA Inc. feel free to contact us and we would be happy to talk shop with you about our products.
Thank you,
AJ Halford

why don't you tell them publicly as history has a tendency to repeat itself. It may help others from your experience.
