The power of AC heads

1st thing this morning, I'm setting up a new job on the sportsman and didn't notice that the end of the safety cable was caught in the squeegee depth adjustments and hit the reset button.  The ac head pulled the cable apart like it was a piece of cotton sewing thread.  Those ac heads are unstoppable.

Thank God, I had an extra cable.

Why didn't the magnets come apart?

I the magnets were already apart because I was between the pallets adding ink.  When I hit the reset, I didn't notice that the head was already on so it just had the end of 1 cable tangled in the squeegee adjustments and ripped it apart.

Got it.  I didn't know the heads would move if the safety cable is pulled.  Good piece of info there.  I'll make sure I include using the Estop switch into our training plan.

The cycle interruption cords only stop the indexer from being started. Heads have to work for setup.

I was adding ink each time after butting the screens to the triloc and lowering the table with reset.  The table won't raise at your next screen with the estop pressed.

I'm only half kidding.

Auto presses could become so regulated someday--with all the potential safety "issues"--they'll be as complicated and hard to troubleshoot as an aging luxury car.

My old Gauntlet auto is all air, and there are still opportunities to get hurt.  Nothing like farming though. Lots of old farmers with a short finger or two.  Gotta keep your wits about you around ANY power equipment.

I do see the advantages in AC servos on strokes and choppers.  I'll save my pennies.

Hmmm if our safety bar is move in just a little nothing moves on our press, don't know if that is good or bad as we've never had a problem since our press don't use cords,still good info to share with everyone.

Yup, same with mine. Nothing moves if the safety bar is open.

There was one time that instead of hitting the floodbar UP button the head control, I pushed the carriage front button. Had my arm already in there holding the floodbar to take it out. Elbow was pinned inside the frame holder and bent my wrist inward. Hurt like a mofo but luckily didn't break/tear anything. Lesson learned.
