How is dye in emulsion affecting exposure?

Reading the ongoing drama about LED exposure units possibly lacking in full exposure all the way through the layer, a question popped into my head wondering if clearer emulsions would expose more completely.

We'll worry about checking for pinholes and those who have to line up screens manually another time.

I've been wondering the same. When I was in the auto refinish industry paint manufacturers were working on a clear uv hardened primer. I never got used to it because its mil thickness was deceiving. I imagine the same might be true with emulsion and also I would think the light would travel under the stencil edge much easier.

My understanding is the dye is used to match the exposure latitude absorption of the sensitizer being used in the emulsion.

I seem to remember some emulsions having add-it-yourself dye if folks wanted it clear(er) for easier pre-Registration System registration.
