Is there a simple way of doing this with discharge inks?
« on: April 27, 2015, 11:16:36 PM »
Can this be done with discharge by using only 3 screens? A white, a greenish color and a brown and create the 4th color by overprinting the brown with the green? Would the one  color that prints on top of the other to be halftones?

To answer my own question, yes it does work with 3 screens. Actually it works very well. No need to halftone anything. Just tried it with 2 screens plus a white and the result was almost perfect.

Nice to see someone answer their own question. I posted on this perhaps a year ago pic on........ camera which is at home. 3 screens six colors. Perhaps Andy will find it. It has its limits but as long as you are not super Pantone specific  this works. We have been using the technique in some of our clothing lines for around 12 ys.

For this job there is no close pantone match required, even though we still try to get as close as possible to what Photoshop "says" the nearest pantone color is.
But yeah it`s good fun experimenting with discharge inks, the results are most of the times amazing.

No halftone anything and you got 3 colors with 2 screens?

Not counting the white mentioned as I assume it's for the underbase.

We've done as many as 7 colors with 3 screens no halftones. More is possible. R&D required

Well, beyond my comprehension then.

No underbase! Kind of defeats the whole purpose
