Good Friday - What do you do?

Mind's Eye Graphics is located in NE Indiana in what many people refer to a a 'very' religious area where faiths of all type rather peacefully co-exist.

Many smaller business entities still maintain the tradition of 'honoring' Good Friday by either being closed or closing from 12-3 in remembrance of the time Christ was being crucified.  Many larger industrial organizations have established Good Friday as part of their paid Holiday scheme so most of our customers have essentially a 3 day weekend.  Retail and eating establishments are open & taking advantage of others not having to work for the day.

MEG is open regular business hours but generally 1/2 of our staff has elected to take Good Friday off as PTO and the phone seldom rings.

By 3 PM production will be silent and we generally have 1 or 2 staffers who stick around to take the odd phone call, service will call customers and let UPS load up at 4:30.  Our industrial park location has a normal amount cars in 3 of the 5 companies located here.

Peaceful day that I get to clean out my inbox and I was just curious as to other TSB members business practices regarding Good Friday.

almost the same here. some paid and some unpaid time off. We are at half staff here for few more hours. For the most part, we are open to give the hours to those that want/need the work. . .

My wife's side is Orthodox so their Christmas is a week later. We'll head to NYC to meet up with the rest of the family and be taking a long weekend then. Week fore or aft, not that big of a deal in my book so next week it is!

Normal work day for us. We probably will be a little slower on sales but we are still full day and we are ramping up for our open house next week where basically my people will be paid to hang out and talk to customers/friends of the shop all day.  We give away shirts and food to anyone coming by.

We run as if it were a normal day. A few will take the afternoon off and begin their travels. We have never treated it any different than a regular work day. Actually going ten hours today and making them work tomorrow a half day. It's our busy time and all of our people understand that.

With all of that said, I hope everyone here has the time to enjoy with their friends and loved ones on this holiday weekend (trying to keep it PC)

REALLY slow for customer calls tho... phone and email are nearly silent.. kinda nice, getting lots of stuff done.

Currently, our people are all Christians (not particularly on purpose) at our shop, but we really don't do anything substantially different on Good Fridays, I guess.

However, it is noticeably light on traffic and phone calls.

We are always closed on Saturday and Sundays, year round. I often do some "catch up" on Saturdays, even though the doors are locked. But many of our customers know my cell number, so if I'm here at the shop, sometimes they will come by and pick up an order...after calling me first.

But that ain't happening tomorrow. It's Easter weekend and THIS Saturday... this place is gonna be like a Mausoleum. So that's different than most weekends.

Easter Sunday itself is a big deal though. No other faith even CLAIMS to follow One who was raised from the dead, let alone that fact being largely unchallenged by credible historians.

My wife was raised Methodist, and as co-owner would be more comfortable if we closed on Good Friday. Their family usually attended several evening commemorations during this season each year. The only other one I can remember is Maunday Thursday, and I even forget what it means. But their Church always had a good Friday meeting.

THIS particular Good Friday is especially quiet, because Wichita is busy picking up from a NASTY spring storm that ROARED through here about 12:45 this morning. Powerlines, trees, and various trash is strewn all around town. One of our gals could hardly drive to work for all the detours. Some schools are cancelled even.

Every Friday is Good Friday with a four day workweek!

Of course, I haven't personally had a four (or even five) day workweek in months, but my employees sure seem to like it!   

If my shop were open on Fridays, we'd be running full speed.

We work, always have, always will. And though I tend to work a few Sundays in the spring, Easter isn't one of them.
