Rutland or Wilflex PMS kit
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:07:08 PM »
Been looking into getting a pantone mixing kit for the shop and have narrowed it down to either rutland or wilflex. They both seem great, and I've heard nothing but good things about both systems which puts me in a dilemma. What would yall recommend?

We have been running the Rutland M3 and WB system for years.
Great colors, great opacity. Easy computer interface for recipes...
I would recommend Rutland.. $.02

Both are good systems.  Mixing systems are an investment, and when you need ink to make a specific color most people need the ink ASAP.  I would take in to account availability in your area and whoever your supplier is, what they stock, delivery times, etc...   Just a thought.

i was a rutland user for half my career and made the switch to wilflex many years ago. I like how all the pigments are more balanced and the ink tends to be the same opacity across the board.

Ive used each version of both inks brands and like the epic EQ the best with amazing base.

has anyone tried the wilflex oasis line with their mixing system?

Yes, i prefer the oasis pigments, matsui or jantex base. Rutland penetrant and lubricant and matsui fixer N for my pigment overload red mixes.

Both are good from what I can tell, been using Wilflex PC for plastisol, and Rutland for wb for years. Kevin is right, go by availability. Ordering fives of base from across the country doesn't make sense.

Thanks for the input!
Looks like i'll be going with the Wilflex one.
Turns out their main manufacturing place is only an hour away, so worst case scenario if I run out of something, I could just run down there.

Umm....

Double check and see if they will sell direct to you like that.  My understanding is that not all do.....

Working on that currently, if they don't, then my main supplier carries them as does another in marietta.
Had to do a double check though and since i'm running all Mac's, their mixing system doesn't work (only windows based apparently).
Rutland's on the other hand is online, so that may be what I have to go with.

Rutland has an online (OMX) and desktop (DMX) program.  To get the features of the DMX you'll need a pc or just run a VM on your mac.

I haven't used Rutland plastisols but one thing I like about Wilflex is the overall matte/satin finish v. a glossier look.

I use Wilflex PC system. I have used it for about a year and have mixed up around 130 gallons of ink with it. I do love the system. I have the newest beta mix on a laptop that I paid about 150 for refurbished with Windows 8.

If you buy enough materials, your dealer and wilflex will offer you discounted pumps and scales.

We are contract only printers and almost every job we do calls for pms matches. We stock no actual wilflex colors. Our base comes in 30 Gallon drums.

We use mixing base for most everything, but it's nice that you can mix up others like top score with the same system. On demand ink is awesome.

wilflex will not sell direct...we used to buy from them years ago, but it pissed off the local supplier AA Screen Print Supplier in Marietta.  We are literally 2 doors down from them, so if you ever have to pick up, stop in and say hi.  we are down the side street past them

wilflex did the right thing.
