Printing information
« on: February 03, 2015, 07:36:07 AM »
I want to make a form for the printers to fill in when setting up a new job so we can run a second run more easily.
What information should we put on it?    How much detail?
Screen mesh?
Position on press?
Air pressure on head?
Off contact?
Squeegee angle?
Squeegee speed?
Flood bar speed?
Flash times?
Squeegee shore?
Position on shirt?
Is this practical?
Too much information?
I'd to hear from printers who are already doing this.

Our shop uses a form similar to that. I don't remember everything that's on it but we have much of what you mention. In addition we have ink used for each screen, squeegee type, etc. Your more experienced printers in the shop should be able to give you a list of the info they need.

We also keep a printed proof with it. It often has addition notes/thoughts/ink tap outs/etc written on it.

I'd wright down every variable that effects the print. You don't know what you don't know.

We have a printer's information template setup in Illustrator, so the artist can put it together quickly, most of that info is on there, and some are adjusted at the press, and it's saved with the films. For the DTS guys, I imagine it's the same, except for saving it with the films

Ours. My layout screen first, what the kids get second.
All of the press/screen layout info gets exported to Illustrator when we start making films.
All the ink mixes get spitout at the same time the press sheet prints.

I put a TON of stuff on the press sheets, including pallet size, dryer speed, all kinds of production info.
Never used it. Hell, the visual press layouts took hours to code and the floor never uses 'em, though they
certainly help me visualize when setting up print order.

That FM system you built looks crisp.

Its funny, most of my ops are almost the polar opposite and tend to follow the sheets exactly even though that's not the intent,  it's just my best guess to run the job smoothly.

I mounted ipads on both autos so they can change any of it on the fly. obviously it's much more important that we record what actually happened to print the run vs what we initially expected.

To be fair I had trained them long before we had the database or press sheets even, so it's like changing old habits, even when they aren't the best.
Trying to decide between a projector, a large tv screen, or tablets at each press. I severely limited what I put on the press sheets to fit on a single
8.5x11, and if I project it on the wall I can add that much more. Plus I'm pretty sure the dudes would actually pay attention to something like that haha.
