I don't believe that a vertically mounted print head can accurately place halftone dots when operating in bi-directional mode, if it can...well then, I'll be a monkey's uncle. ;D

What makes you think this way?

@BorisB-Word of mouth from our I-Jet tech, do not use bi-directional for halftone work.

Vertical I don't know about.  Horizontal or (flat) rather, is not prob using Bi direction with 1,2 or 3 heads. In fact, All day long every day.  That might be common tho for flat orientation.

I-jet uses dye based ink right?

I think that is where all the problems of their vert unit comes from.  Wax doesn't have this issue if I understand it all correctly.

You dont understand it correctly. We have made both vertical and horizontal and they both work fine

Cool... Good to know.

Why did you guys switch to horizontal?  One problem I have with the M&R unit is that takes up so much room vs a vertical unit.

I can see why (at least in theory) vertical would produce better results.  No idea in practice of course.

With the I-jet II the head travels up and down and the screen frame is stationary, that I believe, is the reason bi-directional is a no-no for halftone work.Guess I should have been more clear on that earlier. Gilly, the Ijet uses wax.

it doesn't really matter how a print head is oriented to the substrate as long as it's consistent and calibrated to it.
