I have a Chameleon 8/8 with side air clamps. All of the knobs are the style with the black round knobs your grab to tighten and loosen the frame in the head (once air clamps engaged) as a second line of defense in securing.

I recently had to change the knobs on a few heads that control the left and right micro adjusting of the head. M&R doesn't seem to sell the black knobs anymore so I just went with the blue knobs....once installed I noticed night and day how much comfortable these new designed blue knobs are. So much so I ordered enough to replace all of the left/right micro adjusters with the blue knobs.

My question is, can I also replace the black knobs on the side air clamps with these newly designed blue ones? There is a little pad at the bottom of the stem of the knobs on the press right now which looks like the knobs cant be removed. I have not studied these knobs and the pad in detail and i am not in front of my press at the moment...I'm asking this in passing really.....so can these be replaced?

Yes they can but there should be no need. It sounds like you are using the manual lock downs improperly. They are not designed as a secondary clamping system for the clamps. They are only to be used if you have a job set up and are going to lose the air to the press and even then you should only be using very light pressure. Feel free to call me to discuss before wasting money on the knobs. 800-736-6431 or cell 630-240-9076. Ask for Rich Hoffman

well i don't clamp them down tight at all. I know the air clamps work well enough....but after i lock them all in with air clamps, i snug down on the manual clamps a little as a "just in case/anything can happen" scenario....after I air clamp everything i turn off my air compressor due to how loud it is and there is no relocating it.

those blue ones feel much better to turn, much better style of knob. If anything I'd like them to just make my press look that much better and everything consistent ya know? The ease of use is much much greater.

so i just order the exact same knobs as I did for the left/right micro adjusters? Or are there different knobs for the side clamps....i need to look at them up close later today when i get off work....that little plastic tab at end of stem...i guess it pops off maybe? I'll investigate it tonight..i should have done that before i posted anything really.
