Where do you get your squeegee blade?
« on: November 20, 2014, 10:30:19 PM »
...I replace all my blade (I use all triple durometer) every two years, and its that time again. I have been shopping around and have noticed a substantial price difference, which leads me to believe there may be something like different materials or something weird, I dunno....

...most places are in this range, approx. $200-250 for a 12ft coil...

...Ok you get the picture. But I have found a few place that have it listed for nearly a third of these prices:

http://www.iconscreenprintingsupply.com/Squeegee-Blade_c_1541.html?lt_c=1&quickcart=1

..even lower on ebay:

...anyone know what gives here? Is there a really bad brand out there to avoid or something maybe? Im not gonna even bother contacting any of the places, as they are only gonna say whatever sounds good for a sale.

...Im wondering if this inexpensive stuff just might be worth a try. Since we chuck it every two years, it really doesn't need to "last a lifetime, yknow?

Thanks TSB gang!!

I use that stuff you posted from eBay. It won't last 2 years though, maybe 2 months, but it is so cheep it isn't a huge deal.

Also the ebay one was 72", half a roll.  So if it really only lasts 2 months it's not worth it...

I'm not a fan of that no name stuff, have no idea of the quality.

The last squeegee rubber I got was from Nazdar 72/90/72

Pretty happy with them so far, will see how long they hold up.  We have a sharpener though when the time comes.

They don't go bad in 2 months, that was probably extreme. I was just trying to illustrate that they are cheep enough that they could be tossed after a short period of use and they would still be a OK deal.

check tech support for Fimor product, very reasonably priced and good quality stuff. Pick up a roll (144" as mentioned is the correct size) of the 55/95/55 for your whites and then call multicraft (multicraftink.com) for some red white and blue (65/95/75). These are expensive, but worth it as you get two duros on one blade and you can turn it around as needed.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

Saati sells direct. That's where I got my V blades and a roll of triple duro in the past. Really good stuff and not expensive if I remember correctly.

That Saati page illustrates something that came to mind with the last time I bought some.
There are two types, and two price ranges accordingly.
The economy stuff is molded while the premium is cut. Actual real world difference will have to be covered by someone who does a lot more than I do.

I bought the cheaper one from either Serilor or Saati direct, I can't remember, but it doesn't seem to correspond to any current listings from either. For the sake of playing with my phone, I've attached a pic for anyone interested in viewing squeegee rubber from ten years ago that's probably not sold anymore. LOL! Perhaps someone knows what the numbers (other than size and hardness) mean
Oh, and especially for Tony P, Serilor still lists (and apparently) sells the Blade Runner

That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

I think it's the other way around, molded is the more expensive type while cut edge is cheaper. If I remember correctly, molded edge resists aggressive graphic inks better than cut edge. For our textile purposes, either will work fine, but lean toward cut for cost savings.

Saati V-squeegee is molded, obviously, and much more expensive. I know I didn't buy a whole "roll" of it because of cost.

You're probably right, as I couldn't find any listings for my numbers to figure it out for myself.

I used to buy all my blade from a young lady at the Atlantic City ISS show on the trade show floor.   She would trade a coil of blade, did not matter the type, for a crisp $100 bill.  Did not undersatnd what was going on until one night I saw her at the craps table and she said thanks for the lucky $100 I gave her that day.

Next day I went to her booth with 4 c-notes and walked away with 4 more coils.  Asked her if she would take a CC for more at that price and she said nope, cash only deal for her 'samples'.  I bet the boss never knew it happened.

Went on for 3 more years until another sales person was in the booth, boy I miss that deal.
