Falcons Football Design
« on: October 10, 2014, 08:10:14 PM »
Hey all! I'm trying to be more proactive in posting on our forum and as Lemorris hinted at in his post, its a little too quiet in this section! So I decided to share the progression of a design I had the privilege of working with Prozyan aka Derek on recently. From initial sketch to finished vector layout to screen printed shirts. This was a fun design to do and the shirts turned out great!

Nice work!

I'm very jealous of great artists...  always fun to print their work.

Myself.. I know just enough to be able to output the films.

Fixed that for ya, Mat.

Oh my bad! Haha   Fixed it. Hey at least it was just the handle that was wrong! I did get your actual name correct so give me a little credit! ;)

And Lemorris, it's other artists like you and Mat who are in a position to get your friends and colleagues over here.
It's not like TSPMB where artists would argue about religion and everyone would drop by to see the fights. Come for the fights, stay for the art, LOL!
Here, they have to take the time to opt in to special section for the down and dirty stuff.
I can't help but to have noticed the trend, that the artist participation here is sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Nobody comes becomes nobody comes.
A little foolish because it can only help recognition and maybe even drum up business.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

I've tried.  Things are different now.

Matts work is cool.  "How get more artist participation here" needs its own thread.

Matt, when you ink are you using an illustrator brush, or inking both sides of the line with the pen tool?

As professional artists, we should always be seeking out other artwork, ideas and methods that call us higher, give us new ideas to experiment with and improve  upon. With the Internet and all it has to offer, Its advantageous for me to seek out the ways and methods of other artists on places like YouTube, blogs and of course great forums like this.  I can't tell you how many time saving tips and tricks I've picked up from watching YouTube tutorials and checking out the way artists progress through their work on blogs and forums. Add to that what Frog mentioned that it only helps with recognition and possibly additional business and being active on this section of the forum seems like a no brainer!

Lemorris - yes I use a tapered end illustrator brush and ink with the paintbrush tool. Typically I overlap my lines intentionally and then convert everything to fills and then perform a live paint effect and then expand. This turns each part of the fill into separate pieces where they overlap so clicking and erasing the extra overlap is easy. Then I go in and finesse the fills to make them how I desire. I use the blob tool as well to flesh in shadows or fill in small gaps. Ideally I'd like to get the perfect inking brush down and not have to do so much tinkering with my lines afterward because it slows down my production! Any tips or ideas are always welcome
