Left Chest - Zips Hoods

Any way to do this on the auto without having to buy the pallets that have the spot for the zipper to fall into? Do they make a little 4 or 5 inch squeegee and floodbar? Would that even work? Im figuring the pressure would have to be even on the choppers. But I could be wrong.

Either way, I do not want to print 4/color left chest on 350 zip hoods manually....

we just got a roll of squeegee, and cut out notches where the zippers are

Use a short piece of squeegee in a regular holder, raise flood bar to clear zipper, more off contact, choose a softer screen and we always run a strip of blue block out tape where the zipper touches the screen. Do not use packing tape, the block out tape will flex and move with the screen. Also make sure when you load the zipper pull tap is not stickeing up.

Do you find any more wear on the emulsion along the pallet edges when using such a considerably narrower pallet?
Are its edges especially rounded?
Do you reinforce the screen with tape?

I put 2 pc's of squeegee in the holder(sq  gap sg) and tape the bottom of screen and you can add platen rubber like what Midwest sell in 2 pcs so the zipper falls between them even better to print.

Yes wear and yes tape. The majority of zips we print we discharge so marks/wear
aren't much of an issue.

we use our youth platens and center the image in the screen like it would be a normal chest print.  the have the zipper fall just off the right side of platten and it prints perfect.  we do not change out sqeegee blade(16")  no break down of the screen on the sides of the platten

im liking all these ideas, but especially like this one. give me a chance to use those youth platens that we never seem to use too...

Ever done any Polos like that?

We have done Polo's and some zipper stuff on the auto with 6" wide leg boards.  Much easier than youth boards.

We just recently cut 14 - 3/16" boards to fit on top of our pallets with a placket section cut out.  We had a VERY large run of polos to print.  5 colors.  They worked like a champ.  Took about 4 hours to cut out and sand everything.  Most expensive part was labor.

I hate changing platens, so we just put green masking tape on the bottom of the screen where the zipper will hit, then a layer or two of duct tape over the masking tape.


....Oh and make sure the zipper pull is off the platen!

Whatever you do you'll want the imprint area elevated, other wise you're unnecessarily adding squeegee pressure.  We bought a set of zipper pallets years ago and use the hell out I them, for polos too.

We just cut a 5" piece of squeegee rubber and put in the left side of a full size squeegee holder. Works like a charm!
