Voltair Gas Dryer Modulator
« on: August 04, 2014, 12:16:01 PM »
Has anyone any knowledge on the cam configuration on the modulator for a Voltair gas dryer?
The problem is that it continues to climb in temperature. We have replaced the TCU but it still refuses to play ball. The main valve on the modulator opens and shuts as it should after the initial start up sequence but then it just keeps climbing in temp.

Tricky one I know. I had to ask you understand.

Cheers

Yes it does.
Its a fairly big(ish) unit. 7ft wide belt by a little over twenty foot. To be fair it is an older unit

try taking the readings on the thermocouple. Not sure what it should be, but testing when it's off and testing as it heats up should give you some information. You could also pick up the voltages on the back of the controller and see if the contacts are being closed or opened by it or if there is some other issue (stuck contactor for example).

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

Hi Pierre. Checked the contacts and they are all ok and good. As far as i can see there are only 3 of the 6 cams in operation (not hard wired) We have established that one is minimal burn, one maximum and one ignition. We took it back to cold start this morning and are now currently sat at 355 degree's tunnel air temp and the ink surface is around 323 degree's. Running plastisol this morning so it should be ok. The only downside is the adjustments have to be made on the modulator as the voltage from the Temp Control Unit does nothing (despite being new).
Thermocouple was replaced 18 months ago. We have yet to check the voltage on the back of the new TCU. Thanks for the heads up buddy, will look at that next.

Thanks mate. I'm in the UK though :(  Down in the far south west. Its hard enough to find someone that can refill a gas lighter let alone a dryer lol  :)
