Do you use vellum or film?

I used vellum for simple one colors until my very expensive Minolta/QMS PS Laser crapped out.
Now I use inkjet for all, and don't regret it.
Sure the built-in PS allowed me to control halftones without a RIP, but even with Ghost, my ink dots themselves are much nicer.

I had also lost my source for very good vellum at a very cheap price, so it was already looking less and less attractive.

I use vellum for 90% of jobs and film for the more complicated ones

We use both. Laser vellum for the simple, run of the mill stuff. We use film for larger prints and anything with halftones or tight registration.

not to ask a dumb question (more because I really don't know, and am curious)...

doesn't it take a lot longer to expose a screen using vellum vs film?

i found it easier to switch over to one...one less piece of equipment, one less set of supplies to order and so on...also, it's consistency.

We used film.  I will say that I prefer non-waterproof film over waterproof.  I felt it was easier to dial in halftones and the ink sits on top, so I felt like I had a sharper screen, but I could be wrong.

Film. Having started way before laser printers were invented, film was all there was (darkroom and all that), besides masking films like Rubylith and Amberlith. I wouldn't even believe that vellum would work at all until the first time I tried it. Once I saw someone printing from an Epson 3000 onto roll film, that was that.

Film all the way here, the main reason I couldn't get vellum larger than 11x17 and the epson just made things easy, shot I still have a few packs of vellum.   What Brad said about non-waterproof film I kind of agree with you Brad that the non-waterproof film does look darker and I know its clearer than waterproof film for sure, but does it make a big difference?  I might buy some NWP film the next time I get film because my main reason for waterproof is I can store and get it wet.

sheets 13x18 less than 100 bucks 17x22 sheets close to the same + waterproof...plenty of guys on here that can sell you some.

I get my film from Kevin at River City Graphics here in in Austin.  100 sheets is $100 i believe, 13x19.  Works perfectly with my Epson 1400.

I know some people who use the fixxon film and like that as well.

What fraction? I come up with no better than 1/2 on prices I see, as well as 13x 18 or 19 is not as easy to find.

I see prices like $40-$50 for 100 11x17
Not like the $6 I used to pay for 11x17 back a ways.

We're paying about $.25 sheet, vs about $1.00 for the same image on film.
