White Glitter or Clear?
« on: August 17, 2011, 12:27:44 PM »
I use mainly QCM inks and a customer picked the white glitter ink for a print job.  Checking the specs on the ink, looks like I need to use a 25-40tpi screen!  Where, oh where, do I get 25-40 mesh or a pre-stretched screen?  Anyone printed with QCM's glittery inks?  I'm open to suggestions for other brands/sources/solutions.  Maybe a glittery clear on top of white base?

She liked the big flakes so metallic shimmers are out.  I've budgeted the order accordingly for this headache thank goodness.

I would hope that the same distributors that sell glitter inks would sell the mesh or pre-stretched screens that would handle the ink.

Dangit Frog you are right.  I order my ink from Atlas and just checked their site and they don't list the glitter but do have pre-stretched 30tpi frames.  I called them and they have quarts of the glittery white in stock but I'm thinking I'll need more than that for a 300 piece order through a 30 mesh screen eeek.

Using Rollers?

Get a low mesh panel from Shur-loc, stretch and print. Reclaim and pull the panel until glitter is ever ordered again.
Takes up less space than a frame sitting in a rack you'll use 2-3 times a yr.

hahah.. yeah I'd guess so. Last time i used a 40 mesh was back in Brooklyn when doing dry glitter for abercrombie.. shivver at the memory

Before that was 5 yrs.. so yeah maybe a few times in your career. one more reason that panel makes sense. You know you have it in a drawer when u need it.

But, of course, does not require a special mesh usually not found in the average shop lie the window screen type needed for glitter.

Looks like QCM might be in the middle of their move to the east coast because all their drop ship inks I was told to expect about a two week delay.  Lame.

Looking into IC Crystalina but will CALL the supplier (cough-texsource) to make sure they have it.  I've been waiting two weeks for my Union Mixopake kit only to find out today after ME calling THEM that they're backordered on that too.  What's even more maddening is I called earlier this week and the rep said she was calling Union to check on some other orders and will check on mine but it should be here this week......so she knew it was backordered and didn't call me back.  Awesome.

I could go on for days ranting about suppliers.  Surprisingly it's the smaller companies I get the best service from (Atlas), ship notices, tracking numbers...you know, basics.

So I went with a 40 mesh static frame and crystalina from texsource.  Turned out great.  White, flash, navy, crystalina last.  Used a lot less ink that I would have expected too through a 40 mesh screen.

Dug this one up because we're trying to recreate an effect, and I can't  tell if it's a top coat (crystalina) type thing
or a white glitter.

Pic attached.

Crystallina.

You can see the multi colored flakes in the ink.

Pull out a loop and you can see the different facets to the flakes.
