Aligment Lasers 5/22
« on: May 22, 2014, 12:01:42 PM »
For those that use alignment lasers, where do you get them?
Looking to purchase, as the 'above the pocket' print orders keep coming in.
Right now we print using sleeve boards. Works well, but a few too many off center
prints are happening. Would like to step up the game.

Thanks.

John

you can buy them at Harbor Freight for about $5 each. They are batter operated and last about a day or so. I wrote up an AC conversion article on them years ago, but I fear it might be lost.

For a much better system, Brian (Binkspot) makes a nice setup. Hopefully he chimes in and has the time to make them.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

Yes I do have them, thanks Pierre.
There have been some cosmetic changes since this picture but still the same. If interested I would be glad to put one together for you.

That's slick we have a new press operator we are about to turn loose on his own soon if he doesn't do well we will be contacting you for one of these.  How long does it last on battery?

I don't have my notes in front of me but on two AA batteries it's like 30+ hrs continuous or 14 days using it 3-4 hrs a day.

I am widely known as a tight a$$ and hate to spend money, but I know the value of investing money in my business.

I've got a huge box of 'other' lasers that we have accumulated over the years as try to do it myself.  Probably a couple thousand in parts and wasted time as I tried to save a buck.

The laser that Brian has created is $300 bucks but is a great value, we use ours every day, on every job and they make consistency practical.

Keep in mind that changing platens, alignment of heat applied items, printing 'fixes', on pockets, avoiding seams/buttons, etc. are all made possible by a bright easy to view laser, select the AC power supply option and you never have to buy a battery again.

I used Pierre's plan on the laser's from harbor freight and went AC and they work great, just a little deem in the shop light at times but still helps printing above pockets on the auto easy and fast.

We use them here too. I do not have Brians but ours works awesome and keeps the consistency good for new loaders or someone that just is not good at it.

I would not hesitate to buy it from Brian though. He is a good dude!

Thanks for the input.
Ordered one from Brian, and look forward to having it on the production floor.

Do you ship as well abroad, and can you make them so they run on 100V?

Never tried to ship one overseas but sure it can be done.
The power supplies I use are rated for 110-120vac and shouldn't be affected by lower voltage but it would be easy enough to deliver one rated for foreign markets. In your case 100vac 50/60Hz or Europe 230.
