Printing Backpacks at 900+/hr

In this 1 min clip, you'll see 16 backpacks come off the press. This is for you guys with a small space. YOu don't necessarily need 5K sf to be efficient. We had four people in the shop working on this job, and knocked the whole thing out in around 6 hr and 10 min. When we had to reload the folder would run to the front and reload the loading station. Overall through the entire day, we averaged 13.5 prints per minute or 810 pieces per hour. And I taught some guys born in 1994 what rap sounded like in the 9-Deuce.

The pockets were 9 1/4" and the platens were 8". They were really tough to get on. The flap on the pocket had to be folded up and the zippers had to be unzipped completely. Doing all that with only one person wasn't cuttin it speed wise. So after about 10 minutes I pulled another guy up there. Basically with two loaders it gave each loader one index to get the pockets opened enough to load quickly. If you look closely Moises and I are folding over the pocket flap and pulling the pocket open to kick back the zipper. We got another 30dz an hour with the extra loader. It was a no brainer to keep him up there after we saw the speed increase.

Upcharge for the zipper etc?
I hate doing that stuff, plus you just increased your labor expense 25% to stay
at decent production speed.
Individually bagged, folded, with tissue, and size label where the print goes. Delightful.

Took 22 man hours to get them out of the plastic and get them unzipped for production.
And the price went up .25 per when the first box came off the truck. The front pocket was supposed to be 10". We actually had to wait a half hour to unload the truck to get approval on the upcharge.
