Corel X5 ????
« on: August 08, 2011, 07:52:10 AM »
Thinking about upgrading... Any X5 users that could chime in and let me know what you think, worth it , don't bother, etc. Also could you let me know if when selecting a font change on letters if it changes the actual line like X4 does or does a flyout come beside the font like X3. Thanks ahead of time for the help.

In the customization menus you can change the way fonts are displayed to any way you like. Thats in any version.

horrible, I HATE X5.  It is totally backwards from X4 and I think they have a lot of junk to work out.

Go to tools/customization

Go to Text the select Fonts underneath that in the sub menu

Once TEXT is selected you will see all the options available

PLay around till you get it the way you want then when your satisfied make sure you go to tools and select "Save settings as default"

And yes X5 absolutely blows.

Apparently, one man's annoyance is another man's default setting.

Fortunately, we can fix it, but, if you're like me, you'll forget  to "Save as Default" half of the time!

Here's visual aids and reminders of what Steve described.

I dunno, I can't remember, I bought it about  year ago and I still have it installed, I only use it to open files I saved in version 15.

The main problem is the new color management tools like to break out each black as a separate plate.  So if you have an RGB black and a CMYK black and a grayscale black in the same file, each one of those is a plate.

Also, for a while, most of my macros didn't work with it either.  At first you couldn't even make a color palette from the open document.

Diane mentioned the color management a bit back in May when Homer first asked about X5.  http://www.theshirtboard.com/index.php?topic=380.0

I hate the color management it is way above my head and always giving me hell.

I hate the Jpeg export very very slow and cumbersome

Buggy as hell i have lots of crashes.

The crashes may go away if I updated but when I  tried that I could not run my plotter anymore

They changed a lot of very very common icons for no apparent reason other than for the sake of change.

I have upgraded every version since Eleven, X5 is the worst of them all , there is probably a way to make it do what previous versions did, but I don't have to read and figure it out, X3 is the best I have seen.
