Question about Illy tints

I have an ai file that opens (actually imports) fine in my CorelDRAW, but has objects that do not allow me to change to full 100% of color. Even when changed to a Pantone spot color, in the Fill Window dialogue, they incorrectly list as 100%.

What can I do, or ask the artist to do?  We are changing this to one color, and do not want tints.

I've experienced that when having elements that were imported or created in another manor outside a straight fill or stroke on a vector path, the color sometimes does not respond easily to changes. Thinks like blends, tints using "modes" for true visual effects rather than % of a color for example.

When converting, I can most often remove its color settings by choosing (no fill and no stroke) and then go back and choose what I want. Most times.

See if the have a transparency on them. I have had that.

I will ask her that. She is very cooperative, and being a web designer, is interested in learning what is needed in this end as well.

I am assuming that I can't do anything in Corel that will help.

Just for the record, I did make a large high resolution version for Photoshop that allowed me to fill it with a solid color, so can still move forward on my own of need be.

I have had a few images that had values of "LR" something rather as opposed to RGB or CMYK that gave me problems in Corel.

These colors are listed as straight CYMK, but are not the true values as they are lighter than the other examples which are full value.

Yep illustrator has a transparency tool AND a %Fill slider for SPOT colors. The problem is that if you use the slider for the spot tint, Illustrator assumes a WHITE background and your object may or may not be intended to print on a white background and the preview color goes way off. See attached example I drew up.

This may or may not be what she is doing in Illy that is causing your issues, but it could cause what you're describing?

Illy does give you the option to print or knockout under attributes. Overprinting left unchecked will knock out everything under it. Underbase a can be left u set the art, with overprinting selected and it will print without having any top colors knocked out of the underbase.

That's what that is for.

I'm guessing she used Transparency as well; I'd ask for another file with 100% fills that you would be able to manipulate in CD...

You can take and select that part and go to the transparency tool and change it to "0" none. Depending on if it is vector still and not been changed to bitmap. i do it all the time for one colors. Or I change it to a tint rather than trans. So the dot if I do print halftones aren't 50% halftone and a transparencey on it of say 40% which make the dots itty bitty.
