They will take $3000 shipped for this one but my concern if you look at the specs its 78db for the 7.5 rotary where Eaton's 7.5 piston is 73db and Belaire and Chichao Pneumatic 7.5 piston quiet series are 69db. I think with the compressor being in the shop decibel level is a major selling point for me.

Remember that db ratings are exponential.. I believe that every 3db of sound level is a perceived doubling of sound to your ears.  So a unit that's even only 6db quieter will be much quieter in your shop.  going from 78db to 69db is a huge step.

Is there a standard on that rating? Because distance is a huge factor and it's impossible to compare withou knowing that information.

You keep focusing on Hp when it's cfm that counts, you could put a 20 hp motor in front of a 17 cfm pump but it will still only develop 17 cfm. What's the required cfm for the press? That CP screw compressor is only 20 cfm, seems a little small for an all air press.
Your correct. The rotary 7.5 puts out 20 cfm and the pistons I mentioned puts out 26. M&R says to run the machine all out it needs 32 cfm. I will never run all heads or very fast so I believe 26 would be ok.

so my post never made it so this one will be shorter. I have Kaeser 7.5hp, around $8K for the whole set-up, compressor/tank/chiller. I can have a conversation next to the it while its running. Think of it as an investment. Good deals can be had I'm sure on used compressors, but I went new because I didn't want other peoples problems.

This is true. I ran a Kaeser for years with same set up comp/tank/chiller. While you couldn't hear a pin drop you could have a conversation next to it. Great products by them

Ted had a Quincy that was pretty quiet, maybe sounded like a scooter idling at worse, but softer.

Hey Brandon, did you get settled in yet?

Where do you guys set your kick on / kick off pressures at?

on at 105 PSI, off at 115 PSI -- if we arent running the Trident with air heads

on at 110 PSI, off at 125 PSI -- if we are running all 4 presses.

I set my ON PSI to be 5-10psi higher than the 'highest' set regulator on all my equipment.

My compressor is a 175psi max unit.... my Javelin has it's regulator set at 120psi.  my ON psi is 125, my OFF psi is at around 150... that way the press is always running at the 'same' PSI internally.
