Press Key question
« on: August 30, 2013, 05:57:21 PM »
I know some of you out there have multi autos and run two shifts, but do any of you take the key out of the press and at the end of the work day and check them out to different press operators, I thinking about this when I turn my press off a moment ago, I know some places where workers have there machine they use only.

Sounds like a problem waiting to happen.... when someone loses the key or is out sick then you need to scramble to find your duplicate.

I never understood why there was a key to begin with. I actually re-weird ours to bypass the key.
Do most presses have keys?  I don't remember.  Our anatol does, but the S.Roque does not.

I've never understood it either, makes sense what Alex said.  If you made a habit of taking the key out more than once every ten years its gonna get lost, no doubt.  We lose the delivery van keys once a week and I keep a set on my personal keychain for that reason.  Sounds like one more thing for my brain dead crew to lose and for me to throw a fit about...no thanks.  I guess if the key was like a golf cart key and there were plenty of spares then its no big deal but I wonder why they are even there.

i never knew some presses had keys.

i don't think it's useful.  Keys are great on your table saw at the house(if you have kids), but a press in a production facility?  not so much.

Alan, does your RPM have a key?

Any MHM, Workhorse, TAS or the other blue PrinteƗ users want to chime in if your press has a key?  Maybe if we are lucky we will be able to find a M&R user somewhere out there that can chime in too;)

At this point I'm just interested!

no key on either of our m&r machines, and I can't think of a scenario where I wish I did have a key. That's just what we need, one more thing to slow us down, hunting for the damn key. . .I never would have thought a machine had a key...I'd rather have a cup holder and a toaster oven to warm up my sammich...

Someone let Hoffman know revolver mode is out, and a big gulp holder and sammich mode is in! ;D

Kinda funny- our S.Roque came with a spraytac can holder for on the front safety bars/barrier, we used it for holding drinks!

I also don't understand the benefit of a key. My multiprinter came with a lock on the control box door but no key. I thought about getting a locksmith, tried picking it, but ended up just drilling the sucker out.

I was under the impression it was a safety feature, mainly for use when the machine is being serviced. I will agree that it is sort of pointless... I always just pull a safety cable/bar when I am working on a machine.

a lockout/tagout kit is a better and safer bet.  at walmart we could use a nail file to turn unlock the lock on the keyboard to override things.

On my Anatol, if I adjust print or flash parameters while the machine is running in auto mode, if I try to go back into the menu to change a setting the second time, I can only get one level deep in the menu.  Which means I have to stop and cycle power (with the key) to allow me back into the sub-sub menus.

If I remember to STOP the machine before changing the flash time, then all is well in the Anatol brain-landia.

So, I use my key lol.

Ok, heck I didn't know, kinda thought all presses had them, but I'm like you all what is the point for a key, I never take ours out cause if I did it would get loss bigger than sh!t real quick.  Maybe this is just on anatols only hmmm.

our MHM has a key. The connection on it broke few months back so I just shorted it out. So yeah, we have a key, but it does not do anything. . .

and I guess the rule is....in a print shop, if it can happen it will...of course like pierre you can always wire around the key.
