Creative things you've done with your equipment crating???????

We all know when buying new gear that we end up with some really nice heavy duty crating wood, some solid enough to build walls with. We've using some as walls and hung drywall or wood panels on, like our compressor room built from our Diamond back's crate. Or a storage area wall'd off from the all the wood that our Tajima 6 head came in. Most recently my wife had been asking for a new mix station for her MX mix system. I took a look at my stack of M&R I-Image crating wood, which by the way, M&R has some pretty dang awesome crating wood. I saw that with a saws all, a drill, and some screws, I could chop up the roof structure M&R built for that crate and come up with her station. If you have used your crating material, post some pics, this could be a really cool on going thread. Hope everyone is keeping busy!!

Thanks DK, she wanted to be able to keep the different mix colors of the system away from each other enough to keep the contamination from happening. We put some big steel cabinets off to the left that you can't see in the pic for all of our other inks, and pantone mixes for reusing. They have doors on them to keep dirt and stuff out of the ink rather than the open shelves we used to have. The mx system is nice and easy to use and now she's able to work with it with less hassle having it all open like that.

i don't mind crating wood, the problem is it's a lower grade than standard lumber, so it's usually knotty and warped. It looks better as a focal wall...

Thanks D! It's clean because "she" is the only one allowed to use it lol. I'd have it looking pretty nasty by now too. She rolls a little cart we got over to mix inks on to keep any splashing away from the component colors. My waterbased mixing area is a friggin stanky mess lol.

It's not a year standing there yet, but, she is really picky and ocd about her stuff, so I imagine over time the color of the wood will change but it will stay pretty clean, she yelled at me for posting a pic and having ink on the buckets. lol . I keep saying I'm going to put some handles on the bucket lids to grab, think I'll do that this weekend, one more way to keep cross contamination down.

Both boats were built from scratch the same way real ones are built, no kits, no purchased parts. They are framed and strip planked using the crating from our press. Everything is made by hand including the hardware in my shop. The sail boat is an old surf fishing boat used along the Jersey coast around the turn of the century. The skiff is built using plans for boats working Pound and Gill nets in and around New Jersey. There has also been some doll furniture made for my daughter.
