Networking an Emb Machine
« on: May 21, 2013, 12:21:49 PM »
So we got our new (almost new) Barudan 15 needle single head delivered. I have it all set up where it will reside which is in a different room than the 12 head Barudan. The 12 head is connected directly to the computer with a USB to serial connection. The new machine also has a serial connector but the previous owner has a ethnernet to serial adapter on it. What I need to know is how can I connect this single head into the network? I cant connect it directly to the computer with out losing the internet obviously, is their sometime of unit I can by that recieves multiple cat5 inputs? Or can I plug the emb machine directly into the router? I did that how do I see it on the computer. I really am stupid with network stuff I mean really really stupid! I have tried numerous times to network all the PC's in this building and always failed miserably, but I do have one success I have a laser printer networked to two computers woohoo!

yeah, it's called a switch, should work fine as long as you have a basic network established.

then how are you connected to the internet?

if everything plugs into the mode, you are in trouble, you need an extra layer of protection like a router with a firewall.

internet/modem ----- router (sometimes this is included on the modem) ------- computers

If you run out of ports on your router you can buy a network switch, this will give you additional
ports for additional computers on your network.

Windows computers need only be setup with the same "workgroup" name to be networked
after being physically connected.

Brad all our computers are connected through a router with firewall.

Eb so if I plug the cat5 from the emb machine into the router I should be able to see the machine on a computer?

I know in the past I tried all the network stuff windows supposedly does for you but it just never worked right.
