Props to Scott Fresener.....
« on: June 21, 2011, 07:03:12 PM »
What little I knew about photoshop has been forgotten, due to lack of use. This week I took a five color job that came in as a Jpeg (mostly text). Normally I'd use Vector Magic to convert to EPS and print it as a spot color. The text in this job didn't trace well.. so I decided to separate it in photoshop.
I have some photoshop training DVD's produced and sold by Scot Fresener.. so it was time for a refresher course.
Using Scott's training I was able to build 5 channels and convert the image to spot colors in a couple hours.
To put it in perspective, I hardly remembered the difference between a layer and a channel.. these training DVD's are geared for guys like me.

Now... this won't mean much to the Photoshop skilled out there... but for the poorly trained (like me) .psd can really be intimidating.
Say what you will about US Screen... but they did have some good products.

Kinda funny, I think everything else is intimidating and PS as easy.
50% of the time I'm 100% right.

I know I've  been a fairly vocal opponent of all things US Screen and Scott Fresener for a long time, but with that said, he has done some good things for a lot of people and has achieved way more than I have, that's for sure.  Glad to hear he helped you out on that job.

I am a bigger fan of Tom at advanced artist.

Training geared toward this industry is getting better and better, it's nice to see it's helping folks out.

Scott still sells Photoshop training geared towards screen printing.... along with many other products.
..don 't know if there's any training geared towards Illy (dedicated to scren printers).
I imagine there are many people still smarting from the demise of US Screen's DTG product... hopefully they've recovered.

...hey Northland, is this the set you have?

http://www.t-biznetwork.com/store/products/T%252dShirt-Graphics-with-Adobe-Photoshop-featuring-Scott-Fresener.html

...Im getting pretty good at Corel, and can move around a lil bit in PhotoPaint, but I know less than squat about PS (or Illy for that matter), and I think I really need to learn to at least use the basic functions. From what I read here, this might fit the bill, and 80 bones isnt gonna break the bank. I would like to at least get some peer-based feedback on it before I drop the coin.

...anyone familiar with this? I would love to hear about.
Thanks TSB gang!!

Yep... that's what I have and it's geared towards the things a screenprinter needs to know.
Be aware.... this DVD was authored for Photoshop 7. I think most of the info is still valid.

I think most it's points will be valid, for what we do, the extra bells and whistles are more for the designers and artists. Learning to correct art and do seps are where printers want to start. I love Photoshop, and there are a million tutorials out there...
