My small story...finally

I have been on this forum since day 9 and I guess is it time to introduce myself. My name is Jon O. Roddewig, originally from Portage, Wisconsin. I have lived in Arizona for the last 14 years. I have a BA in Graphic Design. I did freelance graphic design for over 8 years doing logos and other business startup items. I got tired of designing throw away items so I started printing shirts 3 years ago. I started out of my garage on a Used Brown PonyExpress, then made enough money to buy a new 6/6 workhorse manual. I just got a MHM 10 color auto up and running in a new 2,800 square foot shop. It is a huge step. It's a little scary but exciting at the same time. It’s like starting all over again. Learning the new shop layout and the ins and outs of an auto at the same time is a little overwhelming. I have got some great advice from you guys on here and I hope to share what I can in return. Its great being a part of a positive helping group.

Nice, glad you are here.

Since we are doing small stories, here is mine:

I've been in screen printing for over 20 years and I turn 31 this month.  My father started the company back in 1985 and I bought it from him in 2008 with my wife.  We've printed everything from MLB, NFL, Olympics and other hot market items but have mostly abandoned that in search of less stress and less than 80 hours a week.  Our shop isn't huge, but we manage to fit screen printing, embroidery, signs, and DTG in it and occasionally a car that I am working on.  We are constantly trying to improve our quality and our efficiency and we love the information we've gleaned from others over the years.

It's a messed up industry, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

We have an 8 year old MHM 10/12, and we are tickled, so to speak, with it. Great press, don't be scared of the jump, be scared of never getting to go home... :o

What kind is yours? S-type? I know that if its 8 years old it can't be a e-type like mine. It's a great press. I am still working out all the bugs from the last guy that owned it. He had the air release on the screen holders set to 5 bars. The locked position is 6 bars. That’s why I had such a hard time taking the screens out in the beginning. Now its on 2 bars. I still have to set all the heads to zero. Sonny told me how to do it...I just haven't had time. I have been doing one or two color jobs so not a big deal. I know I want to stay at the shop and get everything set up and running but it will all happen with time.
