Problems with Offset Path in Illustrator
« on: February 04, 2013, 02:08:58 PM »
Seems to be doing the opposite effect.

It's not really but the end result is it kind of is.  Oddly it only  happens to one object in this file.  This is customer supplied so I'm not sure what might be different about this particular object but when I do a negative .25 pts on the offset path everything acts normal except for the little leaf, it actually grows!

If someone could take a look and see if they understand the issue better than myself.  I am VERY limited on my illustrator knowledge and the wife is out of state.

worked for me , I have had this happen . I opened the file and made the leaf and stem a compound path then -.25pt offset path seemed to work fine.

It's because the leaf is not a closed path. It's applying an offset to both sides of the path.

I clicked along the whole thing and found the points that weren't connected and joined them. Should work now.

I tried it and couldn't get it to work, but my default "general" measurement in the preferences panel (not stroke) was set to inches. Once I changed it to points, it worked.

That makes a lot of sense, as when I previewed it was doing a bunch of add paths.

Thanks!

FYI, you can type in the units at almost any given point and it will take those even if you aren't in that "mode".  Example, my wife can't stand it if I change from inches on her computer (I'm sure there is a joke there somewhere), so I just leave it alone and type "-.25 pt" and hit enter.
