Amergraph Exposure units
« on: January 10, 2013, 06:06:12 PM »
Yay or nay?

1 touch exposure?

Parts/bulbs available?

There's one locally and I'm dying to get this Olec/Workhorse unit out of here.

I have had mine for 15 years, replace the bulb every 18 months or so... just had to replace the contact relay thingy.. broke the glass 3 or 4 times ... other than that it has served me well

We use one. Nice and simple exposure unit. Been using the same bulb for years and still get a nice exposure. Definitely need to change it though.

Like ours, no problems from it, just replace bulbs every year roughly.

I love ours, bought it used and it's still a great machine.  Bulbs are available, and you can get them aftermarket if needed.

We've had ours (Amergraph 150) almost 11 years and are seeing electrical gremlins the past year or so.  Have replaced the contact relay Farmer mentioned and our electrician says he's gone as far as he can.  So yeah, for the first ten years it did great but now every once in a while when we're burning screens we hear a real rapid clicking sound like relays closing and opening or something.  But it keeps on working..............

What is it with exposure equipment that they end up doing stuff like that?

Every Olec I've had (3) have had some weird quirk. Our current unit just moved the decimal point on the integrator.
Yes I know there's a button to do that, but it moved it the other way?

Thanks for the response all. Any rough idea on the cost of bulbs? Olec's are ~$175 for aftermarket.

The rapid clicking is the contact relay opening and closing, if it has not been already replaced make certain that the carbon that builds up on the leads is cleaned which is a pain to do. Better off buying a new relay under $30 at Graingers. Also make certain you have a really good chassis ground and that the metal plate all the electrical components sit on is tightly bolted to the frame and getting a good electrical ground. Have your electrician put a meter on the leads that energize the relay and see if the power to energize is fluctuating causing the chattering which would indicate a bad control board sending erratic power to energize the relay.

Good with the fix
