Do any of you outsource your artwork?
« on: October 24, 2012, 06:39:57 PM »
We are a small mom and pop shop.  We do a lot of printing for schools.  Artwork seems to be our biggest downfall.  I guess we are just going brain dead for new ideas.  Do all of you do your own artwork like us or do you outsource to other graphic artist?  If you outsource, do you have any suggestions as to who?
It's not a job if you love doing it.

I do both. I mostly handle the whole thing, but I also have sent art to vectorizing services where they usually re-draw from scratch, and I have had artists (like Jason 23 here) create to my (or my clients') specifications.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

We have 3 in house designers, so we don't outsource too much at all unless it is something we are just not good at.  But we do a ton of artwork for other shops.  Ranging from simple to wild.   We have more than one shop we do stuff for almost daily.

That's nice to know.  Got room for another shop if needed?   We get alot of crazy request such as "an owl playing a guitar in a jungle scene"  we managed to get it done, but took way longer than what an experienced artist could've accomplished it.

Sure do. Can't promise we can do "anything" but I will always tell you when I think something is above our level.  For example we simply do not draw people.  Poor at it in fact.  But we do some stuff exceptionally well I feel.  So we got strong suits and not so strong ones.

I use this one guy, his name is Dan.  Maybe you guys have heard of him.  I think he's here on the forums. ;)

Actually we've been using Dan less and less.  It's nothing personal at all, it's just that we hired an artist that is hella fast and embroiders as well.  Win-win.  It seems like when we need Dan we have several jobs in a row to send him, and then nothing for a while.  Strange how that works.

We belong to one of the online artclubs.  We pay a monthy fee and use as much clip art as they have.
Quality over Quantity
