Ink question on many substrates
« on: May 10, 2012, 01:11:20 PM »
Hey,
So we have this ongoing project where a pantone is mixed with stretch, puff, fr, and nylobond. Very crazy mix but prints like butter. The various substrates include cotton, poly, nomex, triblends, every possible combo you can think of. I have talked to various ink guys at some very respectable companies and they have helped us in many ways. Just trying to get some more opinions on why the exact same ink will puff on some substrates and not others. I know the material itself if different and gases can be released into the ink with the addition of heat. I figured some would print better than others and some might just not give the results wanted. But that's fine as some take the ink perfect. I am just curious if anyone has any thoughts on the subject. And shrinkage. Wow, some stuff is like an 1"

No killer here. Just an ink pusher

puff is pretty much a product of proportion of puff additive and heat.
I bet that both of those vary in your various applications.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

I agree very much. And the stencil as well. Our next run is going for 400 microns. Crazy!

So, why try to make one ink do everything if it's not working? I get why, but maybe you need to do something different with the items that aren't coming out right...

Yep, I left off amount of ink deposit, which of course, can be a product of mesh and stencil thickness

Oh, I agree with you a 100%. But the client has to use this exact amount of certain ingredients by the certain companies. Their specs. Their rules. We are going on one pass on one screen.

And Colin just called and enlightened me on some simple things I didn't think off. To busy trying to get away with one screen and pass. Not being lazy, just trying to be efficient. Thank you Colin as always!

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't call you lazy, I've seen your work. Figures it's a client thing.
