Looking to buy my first film printer, need advice!

It's my understanding that pigment based (read: newer) systems typically require a RIP
as well as multiple black cartridges installed. Apparently pigment based ink is not a s lightfast
as the older dye based. Long live the Epson Stylus Pro 000 series.

Don't think I can agree with that.

My HP9800 is pigment ink (Epson is dye, I believe) and does not need all black (2 cart system)

Using Tom Pitmans settings and fixxons film, I get nice dark films

Do you say this because of less waste/drop or is your source that much cheaper per square inch?

Filmdirect 1 cart for ink.

For me cheaper, when printing 1' to 10' of film a day.

Or just switch to dye based inks.

I am running dye based, 1 cart. Rest cleaning carts.

where are you located?  I might have something to unload.  Not 100% sure yet.  It's an epson 300, with a full bulk ink system.  Prints great positives and you can print your color job tickets from it as well.

Thanks, been there done that with 3000, I now have a 4800 that I use the Filmdirect 220ml 1 ink cart and 7 clean carts with GDS rip or filmaker rip.

I have the film direct refillable cartridges for my 1400. They work nice but I've been getting a ton of ink leakage all over my film, it is really starting to bother me. I'm going to try to just use 1 ink cartridge and fill the rest with the cleaning solution. Not sure if that works for the 1400 but we'll see.
