I foresee the pirates easily circumventing any laws put in place they are super smart computer whiz's nothing is going to stop them. It will be us normal day to day users that will suffer, isn't that what always happens with laws that have good intentions? Its like gun laws the only people that struggle with them are the honest gun buyers, what the hell do criminals care about the laws?

Exactly. Our "war on drugs" has created a criminal enterprise. Anything that is banned or prohibited becomes a black market. These bills have nothing to do with copyright. It's a desperate attempt by an industry struggling to adapt to rapid change. They can already protect their intellectual property, what they really want to do is prevent new media upstarts and control social media content... basically eliminate new competition by taking control of the internet the same way they took control of the airwaves, by influencing lawmakers. Their puppet pals in government like the idea of being able to stifle the possibility of an Arab Spring-type, social network-based uprising. It's all connected.

The "good intentions" are a smoke screen.

Good discussion about a nasty topic.
I have nothing to add other than this;

It ain't going away, and they'll try again.

Different wording, do it on an off-day, or call it something else.

Always sleep with one eye open folks.

( this is the part where I need a joke for levity...'cept can't think of one atm, sorry bout that )
Cheers.

Comcast has been throttling peer to peer file sharing services for years.  Funny how they point out they will temporarily shut down your internet for pirating 'potentially' copyrighted material (?)--as well as how none of the ISP's are willing to terminate services over any infringement though....   ???
