« on: April 19, 2018, 09:22:24 AM »
Let's talk spoilage today- not what's going on in the employee fridge, but rather product spoilage.

In the decorating industry, spoilage is the result of external forces that cause errors when producing a job.

Spoilage occurs when...

You intend to run a perfect order but one or two shirts come in damaged. Since the order is on a tight deadline, you disregard them in the order and refund the customer.

A screen becomes damaged and you mistakenly print a few shirts incorrectly. While you try and shoot them out, sometimes the shirts are not fixable.

You have your auto pumping out 400 shirts an hour and a few are off center. The order is large enough that you can discard those shirts and omit them from the order.

Your DTG printer decides it will have streaks on an order midway through printing a garment.

With thousands of apparel styles, colors, garments, ink colors, screens and other extraneous variables the printing industry strives to be perfect given non-perfect conditions.

Mistakes and errors do happen.

So how do you handle spoilage correctly? How do you go about ensuring a great customer experience while remembering that your production will not always be perfect?
