pigment vs dye based ink
« on: May 10, 2017, 11:08:11 AM »
Can I get opinions on the pros and cons on printing film positives with pigment or dye based inks? I know very little about the difference.

In general, for film, dye is the ink of choice. This was especially true before"waterproof" film became so common.
Fortunately, for those of us who also run transfers,  pigment (the better ink for transfers) inks can work quite well on these WP films as well.

You also want to make sure your film will work with your ink. I've found dye based best, but our newest printer like pigment based (I don't want to void the warranty) so we got some film that was receptive to it and all is fine.
