Screen Racks - Anybody got a good source
« on: January 27, 2017, 12:06:19 PM »
I need a few racks for my screens.  I have both 23 x 31 and 20 x 24 that we use.  Anyone know of a rack that may hold both that are not crazy expensive.  Looking for something like pictured here

If you have time, you can DIY 'em. That's what I did. But if not... I don't think I've seen any for less than $200+ each.
Nice guys laugh last.

I found local Auction place and got a few bakers racks for $35.
Cut the horizontal connectors and added a few extra inched of profile aluminum.
All together, about $43 and about 15 minutes of extra work.

$250 or so on ebay is the best I've found. Let us know if you find better.

The one pictured is a bakers rack. $150 new locally here, but I would opt
for the welded ones, or if you know someone so gifted, have them tack them for you.

This is pretty much what I did. Bought on Kijiji for $50. Except I used an old screen frame to replace the aluminum bars.
I got some long hardware, drilled some holes, and put it back together. Add a nut between the screen & rack to give you some sliding room and boom, done.

Pretty much what he did ^^^^

These are baker pan racks.  You can get em on Amazon or any restaurant supply.  The ones here are $119 and $129

Here's what you do.  They come disassembled with aluminum spacers and threaded rods for spacing.  I think the standard size is 20 x 26.  I needed inside space of 21 1/4 for my Newmans.  There are 4 spacers and the bottom which connects to the wheels.  I bought a stick of 1 inch box aluminum (thin wall steel and sprayed with silver paint might even be cheaper) and cut 4 sections for the length to fit and some long threaded rod to use in place of what came with them.  I think I got that at HD.

The only place I had to deviate was the bottom rods (2) were part of the structure so I got a couple feet of box aluminum that fit over 1 inch, cut the bottom bars in half and sandwiched them inside the larger box using sheet metal screws to hold the bridged sections at the desired width.  No welding required.

I did it to two of these and was a helluva lot cheaper than racks made for that purpose.

You can make them any width you need and resize them later if things change down the road.

we had some custom made from GSF. The only reason we did this, is because those ones on Ebay are GARBAGE. i bought 5 and i have one left. They literally rolled on concrete from our washout room to our dark room. maybe 4-5 feet.

One rack fell broke and popped around 12 frames at once.

These are 225. If you buy a lot from them, they may be cheaper, plus I get free shipping. I have about 12 of these now.

I made some myself, welded metal and added aluminum window strips on the sides to hold the screens.      You could use wood, mine are really strong.    I color code them, red is for dirty screens, blue for clean.

nazdar has these. You could put the 20x24's in at a angle.

i think these are the ones pierre was thinking of.
out of Pittsburgh and you can pick them up on site if that would save you shipping (does for us).
adjustable. accidental happiness is that at the spacing to hold auto screens, it's just wide enough to squeeze in manual frames too.

we tried the busted old bakers racks welded to size route first - which IS cheaper, but ended up just buying some of these instead. clean, won't rust, totally decent quality.

Graphic Solutions has the NorTech racks that hold 20 screens on sale for $215 each right now which is 10% off normal.  I picked up a couple more to go with the eBay racks I've been using.
