Air Dry Epoxy Metallic Gold Options?
« on: April 04, 2017, 11:48:42 AM »
Called Nazdar and looked around a bit and it looks like the only option for an air dry metallic or glitter gold ink that will work on glass is their ADE series clear with either glitter flake or gold powder added.

Just wondering if anyone else knows of a premixed option, or a suggestion for the gold flake or powder.  GSG carries a few, but I'm not really sure which one is the right one.  Any help is appreciated!

Saw someone was using this ink on glass as well: https://www.permaset.com/products/permaprint-premium  Anyone have experience with this one?

Hey Mimosa, I mix with metallic flakes and powders for poster printing pretty regularly. I typically source Crescent Bronze powders as they have a line that plays well with wb inks without tarnishing, however Nazdar has many close alternatives. It may be worth calling to make sure this will work with your intended purpose, but I would start by looking at either Nazdar's Pearlescent powders or their metallic powders. Both should play well with solvent mixing bases and mixing in house may be ideal as you have more control over particulate size when using higher mesh screen for printing on glass. Stir well with a drill in a covered container. If you have time to source one, Nazdar has free sample swatch books of their metallic powders and pastes.

I've always mixed my own metallics back when I did flat stock.
Nice thing about the powders available from folks like Crescent, is that not only is there a wide selection of colors, but that they can be mixed with just about any clear base, so substrates can match.
Here's an enamel from Nazdar that works on glass (though may not be as tough as an epoxy)

ADE and 59000 from NazDar should work well but need to test. You can get a clear or a mixing varnish in ADE & 59000 and add metallic powders.

I've seen those a few places, including from GSG.  Any idea which color would best approximate a "traditional" gold?  They have a bunch of different golds.

I do metalics in lacquer and vinyl every day. The "traditional" gold that is
our go-to is "brilliant pale gold" we get from NazDar.

That's where you need a color card and leave it up to the client to choose or okay.

At the bottom of the linked Crescent page, there are swatches, but you know the problem with monitors.
