Anyone running an Epson 9900?
« on: August 26, 2016, 02:10:43 PM »
I know people loathe the 4900, but I'm wondering if anyone is running a 9900 and having similar issues.  Are these also hacked and usable with refillable carts and accuink?  I have a 9600 that I haven't had time to mess with and know it doesnt work with Windows 8 or 10, but was hoping the 9900 would be a workable upgrade.  Any thoughts?

What I hear about the x900 series is that the initial batches of units had major problems, heinous clogging of nozzles being the biggest, but that Epson fixed it up, retrofitting some in the field and improved new produciton.  No idea how true that is but Charlie from ar said their unit they have in house is also used for production and has spit out a ridiculous number of positives without issue.

This series is known for having more complicated chips and whatnot making it harder to use refillables, etc.

That said, Epson now makes screen pos film and it's good quality and will work with their oem inks.  It's not optically opaque but supposedly is good to go in blocking uv.  You can request samps from them to test.  If you have any need for photo printing it could make sense I suppose to just run oem ink.

The T series is best fit for films all around but ours was such a mess with the feed issues that it's back with Epson.  Others seem to be doing ok so maybe we just had a lemon.

I got 3 4800s here in various condition but all working if anyone wants me to skid 'em up.  Not sure if ship is even worth it though.

So are refills not usable with the 9900?  I know they sell them and the resetters (https://www.inkowl.com/index.php?p=product&product=5531).  Someone is selling a 9900 near me for a steal with a couple clogged channels, which doesnt matter as long as I can use refills or even just replace one of the other clear channels with accuink, which chromaline sells (https://www.chromaline.com/product/accuink/).  Can the accuink be used in any channel or just the black?  I just need something cheap that can do 36" wide films and works with accurip and windows 10, which isnt happening with the 9600.

except then I have to either pay for two installs of accurip, or run everything for both the 4800 and 9600 through the vm, which I really dont want to do considering the vast bulk of my films are on the 4800. At least I'm pretty sure that's the case...honestly havent had time to mess with it.
