Type of Tape on sides of frame that hold up to reclaim?
« on: May 24, 2016, 01:50:06 PM »
For those that use tape covering the frame sides and mesh as a protector from ware on the press clamps,

1, what type of tape do you use?

2, what chemicals do you use that do not break down the tape glue too fast?

3, How much time do you get out of it before needing to retape?

Thanks

We use Polyken 221 - 2" tape which holds up great the majority of the time...

Chemicals:
Dip tank - CCI Gem-Zyme
Ink Degradent - Franmar Bean-e-doo
Dehaze/Degrease - ICC 858

When applied correctly, I've gotten a year or more out of the tape, at which time it can begin to fray along the edges and we'll replace it when called for.  If applied incorrectly, we may only get a couple months before the dip tank solution gets underneath and the tape begins to fall off.

We use Gorilla tape, partially because it is thicker than regular duct tape. Its also relatively cheap as were in Canada and getting 221 up here is pricey.

Up over a year on the screens, and it removes cleanly when its time to re mesh.

Thanks to the both of you.  That's helpful.

For the Gorilla tape, does that come in white?

Yup black and white. The Home Depot has 2" and 3" rolls.

I use 3" gorilla tape and rip it down the middle, so two 1.5" pieces for both statics and rollers with S-mesh. Works great and is easier to remove than 3" when the time comes.

Just ordered a fresh batch of S-Thread statics and decided to take proper precautions this time around. I use the poly 221 as well and so far so good. Seems to form well to the frame and I have a lot less worry when reclaiming those delicate meshes now. Hopefully it holds up well because I'm finding it hard to print with anything other then S-Thread.

Gorilla tape. Apply once and forget it. Works way better than the Polyken stuff and the adhesive is not goopy over time.

Yep, switched over from polyken to gorilla tape, 2". We use Supra in the dip, and 701 for the final wash. Cool thing is, if you have a screen where the tape did start to get gnarly, it comes off in 1 piece and you can easily tape back over it without scrubbing ect. Holds up really really good!

Gorilla Tape sounds pretty good.  Is it this stuff that you're talking about?
