Im an idiot....Let my ink degrader go completely out
« on: January 04, 2016, 03:43:59 PM »
Hey! Im in a pinch...Need to clean a few screens this afternoon and dont have time to run to supply house.  I already ordered in a few gallons that will be here tomorrow but what is the best thing I could use in a pinch.  We use a dip tank for the emulsion and it usually does a decent job on the ink but wanted to see if there was something I could use today until the Beanie Doo gets here.  Guess I am going to have to get my screen guy to do a better job of keeping up with chemical levels  >:(

Come on, have some fun. Use Acetone or MEK. JOKING, mineral spirits will work fine in a pinch

Just a quick noob question here: is turps considered a poor choice for cleaning ink on screens?

issue I see with turps is that you're flushing at least some of it down the drain (oil and water don't mix), and it doesn't really act as a good haze remover either.

Saati IR26 as well as Easiway 701 are both excellent choices that are safe (in the quantities that a printer typically uses) to flush down the drain.  They also work as excellent haze removers when used with a pressure washer (we haven't touched haze remover since we switched to them).

So are those specifically for ink removal as part of reclaim? Or to clean ink on a screen to be reused?

I use them for reclaim only.

Press wash for screens to be reused.... the lower flash point of true press wash means that you can easily get all of it off the screen without leaving an oily residue behind.

I had a look at the Easiway website and the product choice is pretty overwhelming. Seems they all do pretty much the same thing just with different names...
