Sublimation on wicking knit
« on: July 14, 2015, 02:04:38 PM »
We have done some sublimation transfers for customers but never on a 100% poly "wicking" knit.  Anyone have any words of wisdom before we get started?  We are using Augusta Sportwear item #1505.  Augusta can't seem to tell us the heat temperatures for the item either.  Any suggestions?

I am doing some st350's and 400 degrees for 35-45 seconds is where we are at.
Use paper on top and underneath of shirt, 2 pieces of tape to hold the image in place so it wont shadow. Like from stahls of mug sublimation type tape.

My wife is doing shirts in the garage tonight. No fan, no air conditioning. I love that gal. :)

I was very happy to see that this worked out. We did these baseball style shirts. I was concerned about the colors of the ink darkening. I took out the yellow in the star to let the shirt color show thu. It worked. The red didn't darken. Very pleased.

This is 1 of the 4 location prints.

Looks nice Dan. As long as the design has no white or pastels you are not limited to just white substrates.

but one needs to understand/compensate/tolerate the nuances of the translucent properties of the ink
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

I mostly use A4 3142 shirts for sublimation.
Also, spray your transfer with this http://richardsonsupply.com/ADMS100B-p-adhesive.html
As soon as you are done pressing, just pull the paper straight up, from collar to the back. You will not have issues with ghosting.
No need to use heat tape this way.

This stuff (which is described pretty much as pallet adhesive) doesn't affect the action of the ink in the sublimation process at all?

Nope. Conde sells it rebranded http://www.dyetrans.com/item.php?item_no=PROSPRAY-II
I use it for 1.5 years without any issues.
