Underbase Grey Ink
« on: May 13, 2015, 12:13:39 PM »
What inks are you guys using for a grey underbase?  Having trouble keeping fibers matted down on a 50/50.  Print on the same garment as pictured with white PFP is as smooth as can be.

Most UB Gray's are heavier in viscosity than whites.  The print looks like it really pulled up the fibers.

Have you tried:
  • Softer duro squegee
  • more angle
  • slower speed
  • heavier flood / less squeegee pressure
  • EOM?  Good stencil on shirt side of the screen
  • Smoothing Screen or roller squeegee

All those things are going to help, and I have tried some, but I feel most of my problem is the ink.

Is there an ink you guys like?
Should I be mixing with the white I use to normally UB to make a grey?

printed that same UB grey today on a job and it did ok, Nazdar has a private label beige dye blocker, don't know why Rob didn't mention it.  Also, you can heat press that shirt to fix any bad ones.

Dirk:  The ImageStar Bleed Block is a light gray color.  It is also only available in 5G pails at $300/5G - IMS129005 - IMS1290 BLEED BLOCK PLASTISOL.  So it is our least expensive offering.

What is the difference?  We have had very good results with the ImageStar product; however the darker gray products (Underbase grays) generally work better across a wider range of polyester fabrics types.  They are dark gray in nature due to the carbon, which acts like a filter and absorbs the polyester dye preventing it from migrating through the ink film.

Currently, the ImageStar plastisols are not on our web site, but can be ordered through Customer Service.  We have lots of inventory of this product.

I have some and it looks beige to me, but we can call it grey ;)  Its much easier to print with, not as thick.  Thanks for the explanation.
