Epson 4900 Cutter Adjustment
« on: May 07, 2014, 01:29:19 PM »
Just wondering if anyone knows how this works exactly. I get the basic idea that it adjusts it 8 mil at a time + or -. But Not sure which way is - or +, and further more which setting best works for film. I know the default 0 doesn't cut very well or at least not for very long. Anyone have any experience with the Epson Stylus Pro 4900 cutter adjustment or at least know of some documentation somewhere on it? I appreciate it in advance.

Mine is set to the default. If you are having issues than it is the blade itself. All it takes is for it to have the slightest little nick in it. Once that happens it will give random cutting problems. If the nick happens to land on the film edge when it starts the cut it will cause it to drag and F up the film. The only fix is to replace the blade. Adding pressure will only compound the problem and cause it to try and drag the film across the print bed.

Thank you very much. Do you know if they have better blades or ones that they recommend for cutting film. I assume its not the same blade for cutting paper since they are different thicknesses and materials, but maybe not. We went through our first one in about 3 months which seemed.... REALLY fast.

I have had the same blade in for more than a year. We output a lot of film. If yours is going after three months there is something wrong. As far as I know there is only a standard blade. You have to remember that these printers are nat made for printing out films. They are made for paper.

Im wondering if it was just the blade that came with the printer... sometimes they don't give you full ink cartridges or the best stuff out of the box but the stuff you buy to replace it with is full quality.
