Epson 3000 all black
« on: May 14, 2014, 08:24:08 PM »
I may have run across a used 3000, but it's not converted.

I know people like InkJetDr and Sigmo sell them converted to all black.  Anyone know it that's something that can be done without sending off the printer?  I don't mind buying what I need, just not hot about shipping it off, etc. etc.

I print every day on a 3000 with just the original single black cartridge and no others spot colours straight from Corel and Illustartor with no rip, extremely opaque films,  and some very fine detail for padprinting. Just adjusted the settings and saved it as a print profile. We get great half tones with the rip too.

Just to clarify, you still have the other carts with ink in them, but only print with black.  Like I do on my HP9800.

It's quite possible, I've been confused.  Thinking back on one that was here recently for sale, the other 3 carts were clearly marked 'dummy'.

So, where I've been kind of thinking you could put black in all, it's likely printing just using the black cart.

I think I got it now.  Tks

single black is all you need.

the black heads on that are a single head, the CMY heads are smaller and grouped together.  I wouldn't see the benefit of all black since it would be harder to align the heads and hold smaller detail.

I also use the Epson 3000 (real workhorse) and I have my CMY cartridges installed to print color also. All you have to do is like Inkworks said just go into the settings and set to all black and the size of film you want to use. I did get a tip on the 3000 that has helped, leave it on at all times, put a sponge or cup of water to where moisture is always present where the film goes in and comes out and cover it. They love moisture to save the print head from drying out.

I'm going to check this one out, but it hasn't been used in over 2 years.  Should I expect it to fail miserably?

Yep.........head is probably dried out I would test it first and run several clean heads through the computer not on the printer, it seems to do a better job. Was it covered or boxed up?

I had one that I got new way back when. Full color and set to black. It died, got a used one, again
all color and when it died I switched to my backup that I had sent out to Sigmo to refurbish and
set to all black. To me it makes a big difference even from the 3000 that was new back in '01 or so.

Screen,
yes select all black, you can also install the other 3 carts simply fool the printer to think the other carts are full same as a dummy cat.
Simply pop the carts open pull the ink bag and snap off the no ink tab on the cart. Printer never knows the cart is empty.

I have two 3000 that need to be worked on, both work like dogs for years just hope my third don't go down, but I also do the same print seps with black and use the color to print proofs..
