Epson 4880 pump question

When printing a normal sized image, anything bigger then 8 inches or so, our Epson 4880 stops after half the print for a short period and you can hear the pump kick in. After the pump finished doing whatever it had to do that moment the printer continues printing. Is that normal, I never had this happening on our Epson 4000.

Like many printers after printing a certain amount of size it will stop to do a head wipe. Its not a cleaning cycle just a head wipe (or spit) this will get rid of excess ink building up after printing for so long.

also, the way the systems usually work is the pump sucks like a vacuum from the bottom of the head on a capping station.  so when the pump runs it is refilling the head with ink.

think of it as a piston dropping in an engine and sucking the gas in like in older carburetors

I think that option is for the cleaning cycle that kicks in automatically before start printing. What I mean is that our printer starts printing half the way through the print the print head stops for a while then you can hear the pump kick in. Once the pump has finished it`s business the printer continues printing. I never had this with our Epson 4000.
