In shop communication systems? intercoms?
« on: February 26, 2014, 03:49:51 PM »
We don't have a huge building, only 8k sq but we have a ton of rooms. It's a pain to try and communicate. We tried the online free things where you have a microphone and speakers at each pc and a hot key on your keyboard. We even went as far as putting a touch screen pc on the press, but it still didn't work like we want. We tried walkie-talkies, our cordless phones have an intercom function but you have to carry the damn thing around and I always forget to grab it...what do you guys do? I think I want a central hub type of phone system, press one to talk to sign department, press 2 for screen dept, press 3 for embroidery and so on...or one hell of a nice loudspeaker...I have thought about those systems you see at Ace hardware with the inner ear pieces and lapel mics but the jackasses that work here would drop in my ear with dirty language while I'm dealing with a customer just to be funny....
...keep doing what you're doing, you'll only get what you've got...

This is what we use. I think it is exactly what you are looking for. After buying the phones and the system then having someone do the install it is quite expensive but damn worth it.

I 'disabled' every single intercom system I ever had the displeasure of working under. There is nothing more annoying than having to listen to that racket when I'm busy printing money.

I don't care what it is, it's not that important that you need to scream over a f'en speaker that can't re-produce any audible tones other than a squealch followed by a loud racket and click as you drop the headset into the cradle.

If you're worried about your employees being 'funny' over the best solution made, headsets, when a custy is in the shop, laugh when you hand them their final paycheck cause that sheet don't fly on my watch.

We use these, I think our one can take 3 or 4 outside phone lines into the system and have about 15 internal phones connected to it.

we connected 2 lines to sim card (cellular) because some phone companies offer free calls if you call numbers that they carry.

We have something like 50 phones all equipped with internal (upstairs and admin) and external (production) intercoms. We'd be lost without them. We also have a board by the receptionist which indicates who is in the building and who is out. Critical.

digital phone systems are cheap, just get one.

I have one you can have if you pay for the shipping or pick it up, might even have a phone or two you can use to get started.
