I really enjoyed running the press and doing things that the other two guys haven't seen.  I showed them how to properly do a lot of things that I give our printer freedom to do differently as long as the jobs get done and quality is above average.  Seeing the differences now that our printer is back has me thinking it may be time to get tough and start making the changes we need to make so that we run even more efficiently and take our quality up another notch.  I have stopped micro-managing a lot of things at the press but now things are starting to digress and I need to get that straightened up.  My printer does not take healthy criticism or even friendly advice well but I think we are going to have one of those years that puts us in a different level and we need to stop thinking that since we are good at what we do, we don't need to get any better.

Should have fired him six months ago when you had the last issue. Someone that cant take criticism positive or negative should be shown the door. Buck up and send him packing. I bet a lot of things get better than what you already know.

I'm working on something now that might be a good thing for everyone.  I care about the guy as a human, he's got issues that go beyond being a red ass at work but some of his issues are affecting the bottom line and moral for others out back.  There is only one guy that could keep up with him when it comes to doing work and he's got other things that make him valuable, but you all know a good bit about the situation and everything is starting to build up and the negatives are almost outweighing the positives right now.  He just lost his mother figure in his life and who knows how that is going to affect his attitude at work but I doubt anything gets better.

I wish I could say we are more busy than usual for this time of year but to be honest we are average. Things are ramping up nicely right now in February but January was as slow as past Januaries. The good thing is its project season and we worked on some good projects and ideas that will make things better for the rest of the year.

I haven't printed anything in 2 months...i have a box of 246 shirts that were shipped to me a month ago from the customer but they have yet to settle on the design.....and another contract customer who emails me every 3 weeks or so asking if i received his artwork in email and if so he will move forward...I tell him I received his artwork then I never hear from him again.

This is starting to mimic my love life...every couple of months I hear from a girl but never close the deal. haha.

No specifics needed, but what kind of client orders 72k shirts? I cant even think of who would need that many shirts at once.

We recently lost a bid on 55K shirts.  I didn't expect to get it but it's nice to bid on stuff like that.  I've run the numbers and we can't make enough money on the huge orders at the prices they're being printed at.  If a one auto shop gets a job that big then the logistics have to work out as well.  You can't print 110,000 impressions with one auto in a few weeks time while doing all your other jobs without tripling your payroll or spending damn near as much money as you're going to get from doing the job.  I spent a lot of time looking at that big job and the price I came to was a price where we would make the money to make it worth it.  So many shops around here do the job just to make enough money to keep the doors open and I don't want to whore the shop out, but I want a piece of those bigger orders because it's human nature to want things like that.  We were going to have 11 weeks to do 110,000 impressions while having to do approximately 350 other jobs for our every day customers.  It was going to be a ton of work, and the money left at the end of the job would have been worth it but I'm sure we would all be more than relieved to have it done with.

If your doing that much work, it's time you get a faster press and probably 2 of them.

Think about it......fast food chains promoting new softdrink, uniforms for nationwide chains, etc. At my old place we produced over 80k shorts and tops for a leading class ring mfgr. Back in the day before the FDA clamped down Marlborough, Camel, Newport, would do millions of promos.

Those are some great number's you guys are doing, I'm just happy with getting 36pc to 600pc orders. I couldn't see us trying to do a 72K or 100,000K orders we are just not setup that way and I will think those numbers are contract printing?.  You guys make an ink supplier very happy LOL...

January for me was excellent. Few new customers with a decent sized orders. A lot of new promising stuff with sublimation.
February is not as good as January, but there is still time :)

Funny, my partner and I and our crew just had a conversation about moving up a level...

I'm in the same boat as Daryl.  We're growing, but aren't landing those multiple thousand job orders, which I'm totally fine with.  We're a small operation, totally family operated, and I don't really see us growing beyond that in the near future.

That said, I am happy to hear of everyone's success.  Finding success and being satisfied and happy in life....who should ask for more?
