need some discharge help

howdy all. ive been giving larger run job i have my fist run at discharge. ordered in the CCI D-White as ive gotten in a sample before and liked it. Ive gotten it to pop really nice.
the job im running is a 3/color. white with purple and red over the top of the white. i was trying to run the discharge white first (125 mesh) with the colors wet over the top (both 160's, purple first, red last). beginning of the run starts great. the colors pop really nice. as i keep running it, what i think is happening, is the white is building up on the back of the other colors and pulling up the white underneath. im getting really inconsistent color lay down. i almost feel as the white is drying on the back of the screens too because sometimes it looks like after the purple its pulling the white up very chunky. some shirts its ok, but most it gets really light.
any ideas? ive tried flashing the white too, but thats not working either. sorry for the cell phone pics.

Can't print plastisol colors on top of d-white -- need to either (1) drop d-base and print plastisol colors on top of that (or add a small percentage of d-white to d-base, like 10% tops to be safe);(2) print all discharge directly to the shirt with no underbase on any of the colors, just as you would print the white plastisol base or white d-base; (3) print the d-white where white will be showing and then print a plastisol white underneath only where the top plastisol colors will go. Whichever route you choose, the rule of thumb, as well, is to always print d-white (or whatever brand of white discharge ink) last.
Hope that helps.

well now that would make perfect sense if you cannot print plastisol over the discharge-white. i feel like when i ordered it they told me i could, but maybe i mis-understood. of course i dont have any of the regular base here. well back to the drawing board... thanks for the help. ive been pulling my hair out over here....

Depending on from whom you ordered it, it would not surprise me for a second that they told you you could.

plastisol on top of any discharge white will not work as the solids in the white will wash off and take some of the plastisol with it. If you do not want to use a highlight white, you can add up to 20% white to clear discharge base without too much issue, and it will look fine on colors that discharge well like black or navy etc. Ideally you should look to discharge all of the colors with butt registration instead.

i was happy with the way the dwhite turned out. i would love to use it again for a 1/c job. but the colors over the top def does not work. if im gonna start getting into the discharge though, i feel like i should get some other samples in.

cleveprint, be careful with D-White in this application. Two very important things:
DC inks need to be driven deep into the fabric. If you are laying the ink on top, especially this ink, the white pigment will bridge up and the ink layer will flake off after a couple washings. Base the ink down
(D-White is way too thick to print out of the bucket)
with water, retarder/penetrant, softener or a mix of all three, adjust mesh, stencil, off contact and blade pressure and angles until you are seeing adequate penetration to the inside of the shirt. DC whites should be very runny and want to flow rapidly, not puddin' like.
For a DC UB, we run 80% D-base, 20% D-White, your preferred mix may be different but, if it's any indicator, CCI is going to be selling a premix of this ratio as a DC UB. It's performed well for us.
Hope that helps a bit. Magna Super White + Base may be a superior DC UB mix. We tested Magna and found it inferior to D-White as a standalone white but it's on press properties were better than any DC ink we've seen, flows very well right out of the bucket and that's a property you want in a DC UB ink.

In regards to Magna ... as an underbase ... the BLENDING white (MAGNAPRINT DISCHRG WHITE AB-AW) is the best underbase for shirts that do not full discharge. Very pliable, not tacky, etc. It is NOT an Opaque white like the Superwhite.

As a standalone DC white, not an underbase, we found CCI D-White to beat all so far, however, we do have a sample of Rutland's and that needs to get some press time very soon. Some white's do better in some shops than others, it's odd, so if you like the white you're getting stick with it.
I was commenting that Magna may be a very excellent DC UB ink to use due to it's superior on press characteristics.

Honestly, they are ALL good in their own way. Its according to what you are trying to accomplish. I can tell you strengths and weaknesses of most of them. Just got to decide what your looking for and test. My results will differ from another shops, but I have side by side samples to justify my opinions. I suggest anyone do the same. Asking which is better is like comparing Ford to Chevrolet...you will get answers that argue both sides.
