Donut Probe & Dryers

O.k. I have a question... Why when I place the doughnut Probe on top of the ink film when sending it through the dryer I get a much lower temp reading than when I put it inside the shirt ?
The probe is an Akins AquaTuff 351 Temp Range -100 to 500 F usinf the doughnut probe designed for measuring surface temps.
Dryer is a Brown 3611 with the heat panel on the second  lowest notch up.

We have the same probe...and we have never been able to get an accurate read.
Our dryer is realllly hot.. and the probe never registers above 280-290... never the target 320 that
we are looking for.. increasing heat in the dryer to reach the target temp only results in scorching
or overglossing of ink. never a good thing. Makes me wonder if the unit is not calibrated properly.
we have resorted to using our Raytek infra temperature pistol..

I know a guy that might be interested in calibrating these guys for you guys.

This is what he does for a living for Baker Hughes (not these particular probes but calibrations of tools like this in general).

I am going to have him look at mine... when I was really questioning it, he was in Venezuela for 90 days so that wasn't high priority!
