What type of equipment do i need to start doing dye sub, or just regular printed transfers?

do i need to get an inkjet printer just for this?

dye sub will require a dye sub printer, or dye sub inks more specifically that will run on an inkjet printer. Standard transfer can be done on either ink jet or Laser. Will depend on the media you use.

Fortunately, an inexpensive inkjet with pigment inks can produce stunning results. I do great with an Epson WF 1100 (no longer available but replaced with another model) and used to do fine with my HP 9800. If you don't need to go 13" wide, there are printers out there for less than $100. The good thing about the Epsons is the availability of after market refillable carts and CIS if you get big-time serious
And, as I have been saying for a few years now, the advent of DTG seems to have pushed the transfer paper folks to step up their game.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

We do most of our dye sub with an Epson 88, some with a 1400 with bulk tanks for larger stuff. Most of our non garment items come from Best Blanks. As far as garments most of what we do is socks.

Our mug presses have been sitting on the shelf since we got the silicone wraps and a large toaster oven.

Once you get the hang of it, it becomes a breeze.
