Backings for Poly/Stretching Materials
« on: May 03, 2013, 10:16:02 AM »
Didn't want to cut in on the Braudan thread, some backing talk there...

What are you using for these newer materials. We have used regular cut, and
woven "cotton/poly?" ones. These are said too be the best, but seem to fray extensively
and don't really keep fabric from puckering after washing. Expensive too.

I've seen some material that looks like, but is not rip-stop nylon with the little squares of re-bar if you will
Kind of like plastic with the feel of solvy, but is strong and cuttable.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

This works really good.

It is thinner and sturdier that most of the backings, and the best thing is it does not shrink when washed.

Hi Dennis,
Yes we got that very same product you might of mentioned before.
We have the white, is that gray?
Seems to fray like crazy after washing. Does yours?
Will have to do more washing tests, any other products that are similar guy's?

That is white. It frays a bit, but if you cut it close, it should not be an issue.
Also, I like to use it with a layer of mesh backing, it seems to be more stable like that.
