Overprint question...for Tony?
« on: March 27, 2013, 08:19:24 AM »
See attached art as supplied from customer.  Can I just overprint the red/black and get that same hue or should I spot print it?  Will be discharge red on charcoal Gildan.  Just wanted to check with you guys before I burn screens only to realize I'll have to reburn all of them again.

Im not Tony but in my opinion depending on size of art you will have a cleaner print color using it as a spot discharge. Also you can run the test using a job that has the same mesh count selection you finished by overlaping the two screens. Cheapest way to test.

You might get it but definitely print the red over the black and you might need a crush screen so I would advise to spot print it as the path of least resistance. Since black is not clear it is a poor candidate for this technique

Thanks!  I was worried that the "translucency" of the black wouldn't really apply here.  I'll run it as a spot color but might make a pass during setup with the red screen overlapping the black out of registration to see what would happen.

@ Tonypep, could you not print the red first and a transparency of black over top and get that shade he is looking for? this forum is so good on great info from you heavy weights, always something good to know or learn.

You'd need a really highly pigmented red and a really transparent black, which might lead to your solid
black not being so solid.

Yeah, I spot printed it. Didn't want to risk re-burning 3 screens to save 1!

Did you have the time to overlap the screens to test it? If so can you post the pic.

Thanks

The dark orange is overlay of yellow and red, the light green overlay of yellow and blue

Nice colors from blend. So you saved two screens?
